By default the WP Security Audit Log plugin keeps a log of website and user changes that happen on WordPress sites and multisite networks.

The plugin can also keep a log of changes users do on third party plugin settings and objects. However, if for example you want to keep a log of changes store managers do in WooCommerce stores, products and orders, you will need to install the activity log add-on for WooCommerce.

This post explains in more detail what activity log add-ons for third party plugins are and how to install them.

What are the activity log add-ons for third party plugins?

Activity log add-ons are required to keep a log of changes that happen on third party plugins. For example; to keep a log of setting changes on the WPForms plugin, and other changes on forms, notifications, fields and entries you need the WP Security Audit Log add-on for WPForms.

Add-ons are just another plugin that are add-on for WP Security Audit Log, the main activity logs plugin. All of the add-ons for the third party plugins can be downloaded and activated automatically through WP Security Audit Log or from the WordPress plugins repository.

Why do we use add-ons?

Every WordPress website has a different set of installed plugins. For example, an e-commerce website would not have the same plugins installed as a hospital’s website.

Therefore instead of bulking the WP Security Audit Log plugin with built-in sensors for third party plugins we are using add-ons. You can select which add-ons you want to install, based on the plugins you have installed on your website. For example, if you do not use bbPress, there is no need to install that add-on.

Develop your own activity log add-on

You can also develop your own activity log add-ons. This might be required if you want to keep a log of changes on a custom-built plugin or theme. You can also build an add-on for any plugin of choice.

Refer to the documentation and code examples for custom activity log add-ons for detailed in formation and examples of custom add-ons.
